IN–SLN DIVEX 2026

Why in the News?
India and Sri Lanka conducted the 4th edition of the bilateral diving exercise IN–SLN DIVEX 2026 at Colombo (21–28 April 2026), reaffirming their growing maritime cooperation.

About the Exercise
IN–SLN DIVEX is a specialised naval exercise focused on underwater operations, aimed at enhancing interoperability and coordination between the Indian Navy and the Sri Lanka Navy.

Key Highlights

  • Participation of INS Nireekshak, a Diving Support and Submarine Rescue Vessel.
  • Conduct of advanced deep-sea diving operations, including mixed gas diving drills.
  • Divers performed both harbour and open-sea dives, showcasing technical expertise.
  • Special dives conducted over World War-era wrecks—SS Worcester and SS Perseus—off the coast of Colombo.

Humanitarian and Strategic Cooperation
Under India’s Aarogya Maitri, two BHISM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita and Maitri) cubes were handed over to enhance disaster response and medical preparedness in Sri Lanka.

Significance
The exercise strengthens maritime security cooperation, improves joint operational capabilities in underwater rescue and salvage, and reinforces India’s role as a key partner in the Indian Ocean region.
