Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. The Qatar Amir expressed condolences over the loss of lives of Indian nationals in the accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar on 21June and conveyed his wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Key Points

At least 13 people, including Indian and Pakistani nationals, were killed and 66 others injured after a massive explosion at Qatar’s Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas complex.

The Ras Laffan complex had previously halted operations following an Iranian attack in March, and the explosion took place during the resumption process.

Qatar, which shares the massive South Pars gas field with Iran, is one of the world’s leading liquefied natural gas producers alongside the United States, Australia and Russia.
