Samudra Sahas Sailing Expedition

The Samudra Sahas Sailing Expedition, undertaken by the Regiment of Artillery as part of its bicentenary celebrations, was ceremonially flagged off on April 13 from Marve Beach.

Tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
The expedition pays homage to the enduring maritime legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, highlighting India’s rich seafaring traditions and his strategic foresight in naval defence.

First Blue Water Sailing Venture
This marks the first-ever blue water sailing expedition by an Artillery Regiment. The team will traverse approximately 520 nautical miles along the Konkan Coast using 21-foot Seabird class sailing boats.

Four-Leg Voyage Plan
The expedition is structured into four phases:

  • Mumbai to Vijaydurg
  • Vijaydurg to Goa
  • Goa to Vijaydurg
  • Vijaydurg to Mumbai

Challenging Maritime Conditions
Sailing at an average distance of around 7 nautical miles from the coastline, the crew will encounter dynamic sea conditions, including fluctuating wind speeds ranging from 2–4 knots to 10–15 knots.
