Syed Akbaruddin, Annie George Mathew, Janmejaya Kumar Sinha on RBI board

Why in News?
Former Indian Ambassador to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin has been appointed as a part-time, non-official director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of four years. Along with him, Annie George Mathew and Janmejaya Kumar Sinha have also been appointed as part-time, non-official directors.

About  RBI Central Board of Directors 

  • The RBI Central Board of Directors governs the affairs of the Reserve Bank.
  • The Board is constituted by the Government of India under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
  • Directors are generally appointed or nominated for a four-year term.
  • Official Directors:
    • RBI Governor — full-time
    • Not more than four Deputy Governors
  • Non-Official Directors nominated by the Government:
    • 10 directors from various fields
    • 2 government officials
  • Other Non-Official Directors:
    • 4 directors, one each from the RBI’s four Local Boards.
  • The Central Board plays a key role in policy oversight, governance and administration of the RBI.
