Union Health Minister Launches JOSH Teams to Accelerate Youth-Led TB Elimination Efforts

Why in News?

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda launched JOSH (Joint Squad for Health) Teams under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 8 October 2026. The initiative aims to mobilise young people to spread awareness about tuberculosis (TB), promote early diagnosis and timely treatment, and reduce stigma associated with the disease.

About JOSH Initiative

The JOSH initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Defence, and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Each JOSH Team comprises five MY Bharat Volunteers and five National Cadet Corps (NCC) Cadets and is led by a designated Class-I officer at the Block/Ward level.

Through household visits and community interactions, the teams will raise awareness about common TB symptoms, preventive measures, the benefits of early diagnosis and the importance of completing the prescribed treatment.

The initiative follows a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, combining government institutions, youth networks and community participation to strengthen grassroots efforts towards TB elimination in India.
