WT-MARUT Portal launched to strengthen Wind Energy Supply Chain

Why in News?

The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the Wind Turbine Supply Chain Management (WT-MARUT) Portal during the Global Wind Day National Conference 2026 held in Goa. The portal is India’s first dedicated digital platform for managing and streamlining the wind energy supply chain.

What is the WT-MARUT Portal?

The WT-MARUT (Wind Turbine Supply Chain Management) Portal has been jointly developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association.

It serves as a digital platform to improve coordination across the wind energy ecosystem by enhancing transparency, efficiency and collaboration among manufacturers, suppliers, developers and other stakeholders involved in wind power projects.

The WT-MARUT portal is expected to strengthen India’s wind energy ecosystem by improving supply chain resilience and supporting the country’s renewable energy expansion. It also aligns with the objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat by promoting domestic manufacturing and enhancing the competitiveness of India’s wind industry.

India’s Wind Energy Sector

Speaking at the conference, the Union Minister highlighted India’s strong progress in wind energy:

  • India added a record 6.1 GW of wind power capacity during FY 2025–26.
  • This represents a 46% year-on-year increase in capacity addition.
  • India’s total installed wind energy capacity has exceeded 56.1 GW.
  • India is currently the world’s fourth-largest wind energy market.
