India’s first radio festival held on February 15 in Delhi

    • India’s first radio festival was held in New Delhi on 15 February 2018 to mark World Radio Day. The World Radio Day was celebrated on 13 February.
    • The festival was organized by International Association of Women in Radio and Television, in collaboration with UNESCO.
    • At the event various participants outlined the importance of radio.
    • Paralympian Deepa Malik in her address said, that ‘radio talks about positivity and it is pivotal in celebrating sports’. She also said that at every crucial point of her life, Radio was an integral part. Ms Malik talked about a documentary made on her life by All India Radio boosted her self-confidence and help create a hero out of a differently abled woman.
    • Deepa Malik , a silver medalist of shot put event in Rio Paralympic, is the only Indian woman to win a medal in the grueling Paralympic Games.
    • The festival included live performances, an exhibition, and slotted panel discussions.
    • Apart from touching on the theme for World Radio Day 2018 – radio and sports – the festival also examined the potential of the medium as a platform for social change, ways to make it more creative and will trace the journey of music on the radio.
