Why in News?
The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has issued its first compliance certificate for a 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus, marking a significant milestone in the testing and certification of advanced passenger transport vehicles in India.

Key Points:

• The certificate was issued to Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd. for its 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus.
• The bus complies with AIS-119 and AIS-153 and applicable provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR).
• It represents one of the longest permissible bus-body configurations in the passenger transport category.
• Fully sleeper variant: Capacity of 42 berths.
• Hybrid sleeper variant: 21 berths + 42 seats.
• The certification demonstrates ICAT’s capability to evaluate advanced passenger vehicle configurations and ensure compliance with prescribed technical and regulatory standards.
• The development could support safer and more efficient long-distance passenger transportation in India.
