Why in News?
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) concluded the second edition of joint maritime exercise ‘SAHYOG HOP-TAC’ off the Chennai coast on 27 August 2026, strengthening cooperation in maritime safety and regional security.
Key Points:
- The exercise focused on enhancing operational interoperability and coordination between the two coast guards.
- Indian participation included 8 Coast Guard ships and 6 aircraft.
- Vietnam participated with the Coast Guard ship CSB 8002.
- The exercise was jointly overseen by the Director General, ICG and the Vice Commandant, VCG.
- Major areas of training included:
- Search and rescue (SAR) operations
- Standardisation of emergency response procedures
- Tactical coordination and interoperability
- Effective communication and coordination during maritime emergencies
- The exercise reflects the shared commitment of India and Vietnam to maritime safety, regional stability and a secure maritime environment.
