Former Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi passes away at 67

Chandrikapersad Santokhi, former President of Suriname, has passed away at the age of 67. Santokhi served as President from 2020 to 2025 and was also the leader of the Progressive Reform Party. Prior to his presidency, he held the position of Justice Minister and had a distinguished career in law enforcement, earning the nickname ‘Sheriff’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on his demise, recalling their personal rapport and Santokhi’s role in strengthening India–Suriname bilateral relations.
