MCA expands eligibility criteria of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS)

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has expanded the eligibility under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme to include final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students, with the aim of improving youth employability and industry readiness.

Under the revised provisions, students in their final year can now apply for paid internships across various sectors, provided they continue to meet the existing eligibility criteria and submit a no-objection certificate (NOC) from their educational institutions.

The NOC must confirm that the internship will not interfere with academic requirements and can be issued by authorised officials such as heads of departments, deans, principals, or training and placement officers.

The ministry stated that this move is aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy, which emphasises experiential learning and industry exposure in higher education.

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, aims to provide structured and paid internship opportunities to youth across the country.

Under the scheme, interns receive a minimum financial assistance of ₹9,000 per month and gain access to internship opportunities in leading companies across diverse sectors in India.
